Cytogenetic evaluation of chili ( Capsicum spp ., Solanaceae) genotypes cultivated in Valle del Cauca, Colombia Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Souza-Macedo,Viviane de; García-Dávila,Mario Augusto; Castro,Gisele Renata de; Garzón-Bautista,Yuri Marcela; Caetano,Creucí Maria.
Abstract The genus Capsicum comprises a large group of hot and sweet peppers, with different morphological varieties and degree of fruits pungency. Due to its active principles is widely used in cooking and in traditional medicine, being sold in large worldwide. In order to provide cytogenetic information which supporting plant breeding programs, this study aimed to analyze the meiotic behavior, chromosome number and pollen viability of the three species of greater economic importance of Capsicum (C. annuum, C. frutescens and C. chinense). Therefore, fruits and flower buds were collected from the Experimental Center of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, campus Palmira- CEUNP to the corresponding mitotic, meiosis and pollen viability analysis. Plants...

Genetic stability in synthetic wheat accessions: cytogenetic evaluation as a support in breeding programs Ciência Rural
Frizon,Patrícia; Brammer,Sandra Patussi; Lima,Maria Imaculada Pontes Moreira; Castro,Ricardo Lima de; Deuner,Carolina Cardoso.
ABSTRACT: Synthetic wheat is developed by crossing tetraploid species ( Triticum turgidum , AABB) with a diploid species ( Aegilops tauschii , DD), followed by chromosome duplication through the use of colchicine to restore the resultant sterile hybrid to a fertile hexaploid plant. The main importance of producing synthetically improved wheat is to increase their genetic variability and to incorporate genes that code for resistance to biotic and abiotic stressors. This study aimed to evaluate the presence of micronuclei (MN) and the meiotic index (MI) in the tetrad phase in synthetic wheat accessions and cultivars ( Triticum aestivum ) stored at the Germplasm Bank of Embrapa Trigo (Brazil), in order to identify and select genetically stable accessions for...

Meiotic behavior in wild and domesticated species of Passiflora Rev. Bras. Bot.
Souza,M.M.; Pereira,T.N.S..
The meiotic behavior of fourteen Passiflora taxa was analyzed. The species were grouped according to the n value (6, 9 and 12) for statistical studies. Some species presented tetravalent associations or univalent chromosomes in diakinesis, bivalent formation prevailing. The qui-square test revealed significant differences in the chiasma frequency among species for n = 9 and n = 6 groups. There was predominance of interstitial chiasmata in almost all studied species. The n = 12 group was the only one whose meiotic behavior was considered similar due to the quantity of chiasmata per cell, tendency of interstitial chiasma localization. Some species presented meiotic irregularities, such as laggard and precocious chromosomes in meiosis I. In telophase II the...

Relationship between meiotic instability and fertility in F2 generation Arabusta coffee plants Bragantia
Granato,Laís Moreira; Ramos,Luis Carlos da Silva; Pinto-Maglio,Cecília Alzira Ferreira.
ABSTRACT Parental plants, an F1 interspecific hybrid and the F2 generation from Arabusta coffee plants were investigated for meiotic behavior and viability of pollen to understand part of their reproductive biology that affects their possible use in coffee breeding programs. Both parental plants (C. canephora var. Robusta 4x and C. arabica var. dihaploid Bourbon Vermelho) showed a meiosis diploid-like behavior, despite presenting a small percentage of irregularities, just as occurred for the F1 Arabusta hybrid. On the other hand, all F2 plants showeda higher frequency of anomalies that compromised pollen viability. The highest meiotic indices were registered for three analyzed plants of the F2 generation, and the pollen viability tests revealed the highest...
